BAGUIO CITY – The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) confirmed that no damage was reported in Baguio City after an Intensity V tremor was felt following a magnitude 4.8 earthquake that struck La Union at around 10:30 a.m. on October 9, 2025.
According to Engineer Charles Carame, head of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), the tremor was stronger in Baguio compared to Pugo, La Union, which the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) identified as the earthquake’s epicenter.
Despite the strong shaking, Carame assured the public that the city remains safe and that there were no reports of incidents or structural damage.
He said there were only reports of some individuals, mostly students, who felt dizzy during the quake.
Carame also addressed videos showing students and residents running during the earthquake. He reminded the public that the proper response during such an event is to stay calm and apply the “duck, cover, and hold” procedure instead of panicking.
“Do not run because you might lose balance or get hit by falling debris,” Carame emphasized. “Take cover under sturdy furniture and wait until the shaking stops before moving to a safe area.”
He further stated that, as of this time, PHIVOLCS has not recorded any aftershocks related to the incident.
Carame once again encouraged residents to actively participate in regular earthquake drills conducted by the city government to ensure preparedness in future emergencies.
“These drills are done four times a year to strengthen public awareness and readiness. It’s always better to be prepared than panic when disaster strikes,” he said.
