BAGUIO CITY – Starting March this year, the Baguio Water District (BAWADI) will implement a 30% increase in the minimum water rate for consumers, according to Engr. Salvador Royeca, General Manager of BAWADI.
Engr. Royeca explained that the rate adjustment is necessary to address the rising costs incurred in delivering reliable water services to the public. The increase will help cover expenses for fuel, electricity, maintenance, and other essential operational needs to ensure the continuity and quality of their services.
Furthermore, the official emphasized that BAWADI does not receive funding from the government and operates solely based on payments made by its consumers. This makes it essential to adjust rates in response to operating expenses.
Despite the hike, Royeca noted that there is a possibility for water rates to decrease if the utility’s operating costs are reduced in the future.
The move comes as part of BAWADI’s commitment to maintaining efficient and sustainable water supply services for the residents of Baguio City.
