The management of Mt. Pulag National Park is worried about the possible disappearance of birds in the forests of Kabayan, Benguet, due to alleged bird trapping activities.
In an interview with Bombo Radyo, Emerita Albas, the Superintendent of Mt. Pulag National Park, stated that these trapping activities mostly occur at night.
She mentioned that some areas of the forest are showing signs of disturbance, and they have received reports about bird trapping.
Albas expressed sadness over this situation, noting that many of the trapped birds are migratory species.
She explained that these birds are monitored globally, and it would be embarrasing if they disappeared from Benguet or the Cordillera Region.
Additionally, Albas shared that someone fell while trying to catch a bird.
She believes that the captured birds are being sold or consumed as food.
Because of this, Albas urged those involved in bird trapping to stop, as it violates Republic Act 9147, which protects wildlife.
